Shadow monk can take levels in rogue, ideally arcane trickster, scout, thief or inquisitive. You effectively double the temp hp you get in this way since every hit only hits half as hard, and you were already pretty hard to kill before. If you go long death, 3 in totem barb so you can really get the most from your temp HP by halving all damage you take from any source besides psychic. If you go Kensei take 11 in fighter and maybe 2 in barb, use the barbarian unarmored combat so you can build dex & con and you'll never need wisdom. You can do a lot, and you're such an amazing scout/sneak. Long death and kensei lend themselves really well to multiclassing (long death at 11, kensei at 3 or 7-8), Open Palm has the save-or-die everybody loves to get off even if it comes kinda late in the character's life, but the Shadow path monk is a lot of fun. Battle master should be followed monoclass till 20 since it REALLY benefits from 4 attacks more than any other fighter, honestly. If you choose cavalier I recommend taking a level in barbarian for the damage resistance and unarmored combatant. I highly recommend Cavalier or Battle Master if you're looking for party friendly fighters, your friends will love you and all that you do. Take some levels in fighter for action surge and go fucking ham.įighter is a great choice too. Like, there's nothing quite like giving any limp dick vampire charm or dragon fear presence the biggest middle finger and laugh as you totally ignore that shit. Most will tell you to go totem, since that has honestly the most variety in play, but fuck that. You could pretty much play JUST this class and want for nothing, but it can be improved with 2 or more levels in warlock so you can get Devil's Sight, and Eldritch Sight allowing you to see in total darkness just fine, and allowing you to detect magic.įor barbarian I suggest Berserker. I think its the best rogue to follow all the way to lvl18 uninterrupted. You'll be doing things constantly and you're arguably the best rogue at doing things the rogue will be doing often (stealthing, scouting, investigating). I recommend the Inquisitive from Xanathar's, its a great class. The creatures here were essentially the primordial god's mistakes, which became too powerful to actually destroy and so they just hid them away, creating those barriers of magic to dissuade them from going back to the surface.Well, rogues and barbarians are inherently very fun no matter what you want to do. I'm thinking there will be about 5 layers, with the bottom layer having a massive dragon, which has grown too large to ascend but has lackeys that bring it food in the form of other creatures or explorers. I could try and just replicate things from the show, but putting hard numbers to it would help, or completely new ideas would be welcome as well! However, I'm reaching out to you fine folks for ideas on what the Ascending effects might be. The monsters in each layer are of no consequence I have those figured out. I had an idea to base it off of the Abyss from Made in Abyss, where all is fine and dandy as you descend from the first couple layers, but ascending has dire consequences. My players have heard about it and are thinking about heading there at some point to see what is going on in there. There is a place in my homebrew world called the Azure Abyss.
