The only clue I can offer regarding what's happening are the various messages that appeared in the Console (Syslog) (See Below). However, when I start the software, the ACOLITE briefly appears on the dock, the X Quartz opens up, and then the ACOLITE icon closes and nothing further happens. I've installed ACOLITE, which appears to have gone ok. Just a hunch, based on black box observations.I have a Macbook PRO (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB) running OS X El Capitan (V 10.11.3). Or it triggers some buggy slow execution path. When it runs out or some resources (maybe graphics texture buffers, or something like that), it switches to software rendering. I would assume that M1 on Mac Mini has a relatively poor graphics subsystem, which gets starved of memory (having the famous shared graphics RAM and main RAM). The typical symptoms of slowness are slow opening of menus, slow scrolling, slow resizing of windows. You can install XQuartz using homebrew with brew cask install xquartz or directly from the website here. I observe that even the optimized Intel applications work slowly when connected 4K screen (where XQuartz works at full resolution, unlike halved on iMac 27), but at full speed when connected to HD screen (1920x1080). I am now working on M1 port of the software on Mac Mini. I have invested a lot of time in making my software work fast on MacOS with XQuartz, mainly by eliminating or reducing the function calls which work disproportionately slow on XQuartz since El Capitan (all X11 round trips).
